Annual Cleaning & Checkup
Routine cleanings and x-rays should be part of any preventative dental care regimen. Such cleanings can reach tight spots that you might miss, even if you brush and floss properly twice daily.
The American Dental Association recommends that you have a routine teeth cleaning by a dental professional every three to six months, depending on your risk factors for tooth decay such as smoking, heaving alcohol use, having certain diseases (such as diabetes), being on certain medications (such as anti-convulsants) or having a weakened immune system.
The clinical dental exam includes:
- Examining the gums for signs of gum disease
- Inspecting the tissues and tongue for abnormalities
- Checking the teeth for signs of looseness, decay, damaged fillings, fractures or cracks
- Checking the bite, contact between your teeth, and the health of the jaw joint.
- Taking x-rays
Dr. Siachos will see patients for dental cleanings starting at age three.
