Excessing grinding of teeth and clenching of the jaw is called bruxism. It is a very common problem, affecting bout 25% of the population. Bruxism may cause minimal symptoms in some patients, while causing more severe issues in others. Symptoms can include broken down, cracked, or worn teeth, hypersensitive teeth, aching jaw muscles and joints, and chronic headaches. Bruxism can occur at night or during the day.
Treatment of bruxism is twofold. Not only do the worn, cracked teeth need attention, but the bruxism itself must also be treated. We are able to provide multiple oral devices and therapies to combat bruxism and minimize its damage to the teeth and jaw joints.
